Legendary Figure of the Sky
In the land of the hills, there was a mage that became synonymous with the continent’s identity. A figure every magician that came after has strived to emulate.
She was a natural mage from birth; potent in power, quick to learn, perceptive to the fabric of the world, a sensitivity that took her predecessors decades to attune to. Because of this blessing, her ascent to notoriety was rapid. She passed her entrance trials on her first try. Her very first mentor was a distinguished magician himself. She was invited to the kingdom’s esteemed research council at the age of ten; an unprecedented accomplishment that was never matched.
At a young age, her grasp on the principles of energy were both blind intuition and actively acquired. She followed her gut feeling, but also sought for the divine truths of the world, an appetite cultivated by her mother and father. The ultimate state of Enlightenment.
In her kingdom, an Enlightened individual is a title given to someone who has acquired boundless wisdom through the three noble truths: that all life is suffering, suffering is derived from ignorance and desire, and to end suffering, one must rid themselves of desire through the Eightfold Path; the path of Enlightenment. Through these truths, Enlightened individuals are able to find peace within themselves and empty their vessels to perceive the laws of the world hidden in plain sight.
Her peers and mentors were concerned about the traditions she was breaking, skipping years and years of training, maturation, and meditation. However, she grew up during extraordinary times. The coastal villages of the Eastern Continent were converging, standardizing their different practices into one. Her talent was needed for a looming invasion upon their continent. And the esteemed council was on the verge of a discovery that would dramatically shape the eastern world. Thus, the exception was made.
She was deemed an anomaly; a rare blessing that only came every thousand years. Her feat was never replicated again. Rightfully so, some would argue, as a thousand years have yet to pass, and a magician of her caliber never appeared. Aside from her potency, her story is also the reason why no one has risen as quickly as she did, no matter how talented they were. In the eyes of the kingdom, her rapid rise resulted in her rapid fall off the Enlightened Path. She was an impulsive child, not able to check her emotions. So when her parents went missing during their Enlightenment trial, she abandoned the path to search for them. She never returned, and the kingdom lost one of its most treasured talents. Since those days, stricter guidelines were imposed, and the kingdom’s research council has never had a youth in their ranks ever since.
This legendary figure spent the rest of her life as a hermit, during which time would establish her as a true legend. She became an enigmatic entity, appearing all across the Eastern Continent, then seemingly disappearing without a trace when the high elders came searching for her. She avoided contact with the kingdom at all costs, leading them to believe she had discovered a new law to the universe. They eventually discovered evidence she had perfected the creation of their researched treasure by herself, a structure that took dozens of their most potent magicians to create in an imperfect state. Ever since, the kingdom has never detected her whereabouts ever again. The rest of her fate remains a mystery that can only be satiated by the countless fables written about her adventures through the scattered villages of the continent.
That is, until the day a foreigner from another world arrived at the very temple she once inhabited…
