From The Author
The Eighteenth Station is a creative writing blog that posts every Friday at 20:00 UTC-5. The project began in 2018 as an experiment and a challenge to get into the regiment of writing on a weekly basis. The stories ranged from individual prose, such as ‘Imagine’, to novelettes and shorts published in installments, such as ‘Treasured Pair’. Rough story blocks of the high fantasy series ‘Wanderer’ were also occasionally published.
As the years passed and priorities shifted, the project became more focused. In 2020, the weekly posts became solely dedicated to the writing of ‘Of A Flower’, a low fantasy novel that began as an undergraduate thesis project. When the development of that novel moved offline near the end of 2021, the posts shifted to what it is today, becoming solely dedicated to the development of Wanderer on a roughly biweekly basis. The weeks between would be filled with poetry in the form of haiku, providing opportunities to practice a very different form of writing while providing additional time to develop each story block for Wanderer.
Context Levels
Each Station has an indication of the post’s context level. Each level is defined as such:
High context narratives will assume the reader knows a good deal about what is going on and jump right into the story without checking if the reader is following along. Generally used for posts that are a continuation of a previous, excerpts of work-in-progress writings, or inherently context-dependent haiku.
Medium context narratives can stand on their own, making sure the reader is following along but not treating them as clueless. Generally used for posts that require more nuanced reading, or work-in-progress writings that start with new context yet would still benefit from the reader having background knowledge.
Low context narratives will assume the reader knows nothing and fill them in on what’s going on, sometimes bombarding the reader with information. Generally used for posts with brand new writings.
